The incident reportedly occurred as the man was walking in Warsaw's city center. A stranger approached him and told him to speak Polish, using the phrase, "In Poland, speak Polish." The exchange escalated into a verbal argument, after which the woman and another person began grabbing and pushing him. The second attacker then knocked the man to the ground and began choking him, media said.
The victim's nationality has not been confirmed. His wife told reporters that the couple lives in the United States and had traveled to Poland to visit friends.
In a separate incident in Poznań, four intoxicated men assaulted a Polish man after apparently mistaking him for a Ukrainian, media reported. The victim had reportedly stepped in to defend girls whom the attackers were harassing.
