Poland to Supply Patriot Missile Interceptors to Ukraine in €50 Million Aid Package

Poland will deliver several Patriot missile interceptors to Ukraine as part of a new €50 million military assistance package, Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski confirmed. The announcement signals Warsaw's continued commitment to strengthening Ukraine's air defenses against ongoing Russian aerial attacks.

Zalewski verified the preparation of the aid package but stressed that specific details remain classified. He disclosed only that the shipment will comprise equipment being phased out of the Polish armed forces that would be useful to Ukraine, indicating the transfer involves older but still operational assets.

The decision comes as Poland reinforces its own air defense posture amid heightened regional tensions. In recent weeks, President Andrzej Duda convened an emergency National Security Council meeting after Belarus launched large-scale drills near the shared border, while Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that Russian jet-powered drones could target Polish critical infrastructure in the coming months. These developments underscore the broader security environment driving Warsaw's support for Kyiv.

Zalewski, who previously ruled out hosting U.S. nuclear warheads on Polish soil while negotiating a larger American troop presence, emphasized that the interceptors would be drawn from systems being retired from Polish service. The package reflects Poland's sustained military assistance to Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
