Ukrainian Company Takes Third in NATO Persistent Airfield Denial Challenge

A Ukrainian company has placed third in NATO's Persistent Airfield Denial Challenge, a competition that aims to find technologies capable of keeping an adversary's airfields and aircraft out of service for extended periods.

The challenge is organized by NATO Allied Command Transformation and the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Center (JATEC). Organizers received more than 60 applications and selected nine finalist teams to compete in the final stage in Warsaw.

The Ukrainian team won third place with an artificial-intelligence module for target guidance, which is designed to increase the autonomy and precision of strike systems. Contest requirements emphasized autonomy and scalability, resilience to electronic warfare, and the ability to operate when navigation and communications access are restricted.

The selected solutions are intended to limit the enemy's use of airfield infrastructure and aircraft over extended periods. The next phase of the competition will involve practical testing of the finalists' technologies.
