Ukrainian prosecutors and the Security Service have uncovered a large‑scale operation producing and selling counterfeit weight‑loss drug Biopatid, made from tirzepatide of unknown origin imported from China as food supplements. Since the start of the year the ring generated over $5 million in revenue, selling packages for up to $1,200 each. Twenty‑seven individuals, including the scheme’s organizer, a Kyiv clinic owner, a customs broker, laboratory staff, packagers and managers, have been formally notified of suspicion. Authorities conducted more than 250 searches and seized counterfeit product, production equipment, raw materials, over 10 million hryvnias in cash, vehicles and other assets.
Ukrainian prosecutors and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have exposed a clandestine network that manufactured and distributed a counterfeit version of the weight‑loss medication Biopatid. The fake drug was produced in an underground laboratory using tirzepatide of unknown origin that had been shipped from China disguised as food additives.
The counterfeit product was sold nationwide at prices reaching $1,200 per package. Preliminary estimates indicate that, since the beginning of the year, the operation generated more than $5 million in illicit proceeds.
Among the 27 people now facing suspicion are the alleged mastermind of the scheme, the owner of a Kyiv‑based clinic, a customs broker, laboratory technicians, packaging workers and sales managers.
Law‑enforcement officers carried out over 250 searches, confiscating the counterfeit medication, production equipment, raw ingredients, more than 10 million hryvnias in cash, several vehicles and additional property.
The investigation continues as authorities pursue further leads and assess the full scope of the criminal enterprise.
