Deputy Prosecutor General Maksym Krym Assumes Administrative Duties Amid Controversy Over Family's Russian Passports
Following the suspension of Prosecutor General Andriy Kravchenko, his deputy Maksym Krym has taken over administrative functions at the Office of the Prosecutor General, while investigative reports allege his wife and her parents obtained Russian passports in April 2014 after the occupation of Crimea began.
After Prosecutor General Andriy Kravchenko was suspended, his deputy Maksym Krym assumed the administrative functions of the Office of the Prosecutor General (OGP).
According to the investigative outlet Slidstvo.Info, citing the KibOrg project and Russian databases, Krym's wife and her parents received Russian passports in April 2014, shortly after Russia's occupation of Crimea commenced.
Journalists established that in 2014 Krym served in the military prosecutor's office of the Crimea region. Then-Chief Military Prosecutor Anatoly Matios stated that in spring 2014 Krym and Kravchenko destroyed documents of the Crimean prosecutor's office related to military oversight before leaving for mainland Ukraine.
Krym has been in the prosecutor's system since 2010. Until November 2014 he served in the military prosecutor's offices of the Ukrainian Navy, as well as the Crimea and Western regions.
The revelations raise questions about the vetting of senior law-enforcement officials amid the ongoing war.
