Deputies on the Wrocław City Council in western Poland have passed a resolution protesting recent attacks on Ukrainians and condemning a broader rise in nationality-based aggression across the country, voicing solidarity with Ukrainian residents and visitors who have been targeted.
The motion was put forward by the "Lewica Razem" ("Left Together") council faction. Its draft protested what it described as a mounting wave of "aggression, hatred, and violence by nationality," and stressed that the councilors oppose any violence regardless of the perpetrator's or victim's nationality.
The resolution cited several recent incidents in Wrocław, including an assault by three men on a Ukrainian couple and a knife attack by a Ukrainian man on a Polish woman. During the debate, councilors also noted a recent bottle attack on a Belarusian taxi driver.
The vote signals growing concern among local officials about hate-motivated assaults as Poland continues to host one of Europe's largest Ukrainian refugee populations and calls for public condemnation of such violence.
