Teremky Residents Protest to Keep Heat Pipeline Construction on Track

Residents of Kyiv’s Teremky district have gathered at the construction site of a new heat pipeline to make clear their opposition to any interruption of the works.

They said, “Last winter the temperature in our apartments fell to 4 °C, and that experience is why we are standing against any blockage of the construction.”

The pipeline is intended to supply reserve heat in the event that the city’s combined heat and power plant No. 5 (TEC‑5) suffers damage, thereby guaranteeing uninterrupted heating for a large share of the capital’s consumers.

According to the project documents, the line will serve 183 residential buildings, three hospitals and roughly 20 schools and kindergartens, thereby covering more than 200,000 Kyiv residents who depend on the municipal heating network.

The protesters warned that any further delay would jeopardize heating security for hundreds of thousands of people, particularly vulnerable patients in hospitals and children attending schools and kindergartens.
