Poland Offers Territory for Patriot Missile Plant if Ukraine Plan Advances

Poland has proposed building a Patriot missile production facility on its territory should plans for such a factory in Ukraine move forward, Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Charniecka told RMF24. She stated that if a decision is made to locate a Patriot missile plant in Ukraine, Warsaw would offer Polish territory as a more secure alternative. The deputy minister emphasized that Poland is separately pursuing the establishment of a Patriot maintenance center, with the longer-term goal of domestic missile production. She added that any potential U.S. decision to grant production licenses to Ukraine would not alter Poland's own industrial plans.

The remarks come as NATO allies explore ways to expand air defense manufacturing capacity amid heightened demand driven by the war in Ukraine. Poland already operates Patriot systems and has been deepening defense cooperation with the United States, including negotiations for a permanent U.S. base and enhanced military presence on the alliance's eastern flank.

The proposal reflects Warsaw's ambition to become a regional hub for advanced missile defense maintenance and production, leveraging its strategic location and existing infrastructure.
