Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on Thursday condemned a Russian attack on the Yagodyn border crossing with Poland, calling the strike a barbaric escalation that threatens the security of the European Union and NATO.

The early‑morning barrage hit the checkpoint at Yagodyn, a key transit point for humanitarian aid, commercial traffic and refugees moving between Ukraine and the EU, disrupting operations and causing damage to infrastructure.

"Barbaric Russian strikes on the crossing at Yagodyn are not merely a continuation of attacks on Ukraine’s state borders," Sybiha said. "This is Putin’s terror knocking directly on the doors of the EU and NATO. Russian barbarians are already at your gates, dear partners."

The statement underscores Kyiv’s push for stronger allied air defenses and a unified political response, as the incident brings the front line within striking distance of NATO territory and raises the stakes for the bloc’s collective security commitments.

Analysts warn that further attacks on such crossings could trigger Article 5 consultations.
