Poland Calls Emergency Security Meeting After Belarus Border Drills

Polish President Andrzej Duda has convened an emergency meeting of the National Security Council following a series of security incidents linked to Belarusian military activity near the shared border. The session, reported by RMF24, includes Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak and Chief of the General Staff General Rajmund Andrzejczak.

The decision comes after Belarus’s Western Operational Command launched large-scale drills directly adjacent to Polish territory. The exercises involve combined arms units practicing electronic warfare, the launch and interception of unmanned aerial vehicles, deployment of decoy positions, and live fire by air defense batteries. In the weeks preceding the drills, Belarusian forces conducted intensive training in radio-electronic combat, UAV countermeasures, and the use of false firing positions, signaling a heightened readiness posture.

Polish officials have labeled the activity a deliberate provocation aimed at testing NATO’s eastern flank. The emergency session follows a pattern of recent tensions, including a false alarm triggered by a flock of birds over the border, Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s warnings of possible Russian drone strikes, and Belarusian troop deployments for exercises at ranges near Poland and Lithuania.

The council will assess the threat level, coordinate a joint response with allies, and decide on possible reinforcement of border defenses. The government has stressed it will take all necessary measures to safeguard national security.
