Kyiv to Roll Out Differentiated Air-Threat Alerts Starting September 6, 2026

Sep 6, 2026 13:30

From 6:00 a.m. on September 6, 2026, Kyiv will introduce a tiered warning system for airborne threats, issuing colour-coded, threat-specific notifications for drone and missile dangers.

Effective at 6:00 a.m. on September 6, 2026, the Ukrainian government is introducing differentiated air-threat alerting across Kyiv. The new system replaces the single-tone siren with targeted notifications that specify both the type and severity of an airborne danger.

Residents will now receive either a yellow-level message, “Drone threat,” or one of three red-level messages: “Mass drone threat,” “Missile threat,” and “Missile-drone threat.” A separate “All clear” will be issued only when no threat remains. Each new alert automatically replaces the previous one, and no standalone all-clear is sounded between different threat types.

The differentiated system is now active in every Kyiv district except Pechersk. In Holosiivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts it is operating only partially, because some areas still lack the technical capacity to distinguish threat types. In those locations, the existing procedure remains unchanged: a standard siren sounds for any airborne danger, with no threat-specific differentiation and no audible all-clear signal.
