Teenagers Assault Soldier; Tryzub Battalion Metes Out Vigilante Justice

A group of teenagers in Kyiv brutally assaulted a Ukrainian soldier, knocking him to the ground and kicking him in the head solely because of his military status, according to a Telegram post from the Right Bank Kyiv channel. The attack was reportedly motivated entirely by the victim's identity as a serviceman.

The following day, fellow soldiers from the Tryzub volunteer battalion located the perpetrators. Video footage circulated online shows the teenagers on their knees pleading for mercy before receiving what the channel described as "punishment." The Right Bank Kyiv channel posted the video with commentary endorsing the extrajudicial retaliation, stating it would "lift spirits and show that justice exists in the world."

The post did not specify whether law enforcement was involved or if any formal charges were filed against either the attackers or the battalion members. The Tryzub battalion, formally known as the Separate Special Purpose Battalion "Tryzub," is a Ukrainian volunteer unit that has operated since 2014.

The incident highlights tensions between military personnel and civilians in wartime Kyiv, as well as concerns about extrajudicial violence. Ukrainian authorities have not publicly commented on the alleged assault or the subsequent retaliation. Human rights advocates have previously warned against vigilante actions that undermine rule of law during martial law.
