Ukrainian artist Potap says he is subject to mobilization but remains in Spain to support his family and media business, planning to return only after the war.
Ukrainian singer and producer Potap, whose real name is Alexey Potapenko, has acknowledged that he is liable for military mobilization but chose not to enlist, stating that someone must continue his public role. At the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, Potap and his wife, singer Nastya Kamenskykh, were in Spain. He made several trips back to Kyiv, with his last visit in December 2023 to see his son, before leaving again in early 2024 and not returning since.
Potap now resides in Spain, where he develops his media company MOZGI International. In 2025 he opened a restaurant in Marbella and maintains working offices in Dubai and Miami. He explained that the primary reason for staying abroad is financial necessity — covering his son's education and living expenses — and described the repeated border-crossing process as extremely draining.
The artist stressed that Ukraine remains his home and homeland, where part of his family still lives. However, he indicated he would consider permanent return only after the war ends.
