A police officer fatally shot a man while responding to a domestic-violence call in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district after the suspect allegedly attacked the officer, RBC-Ukraine reported.
Officers were dispatched to a private residence in the Ukrainian capital following a report that a son was assaulting his own mother. The man had reportedly beaten the woman and was attempting to strangle her when law enforcement personnel reached the scene and moved to stop the attack.
During the subsequent attempt to detain the suspect, the man suddenly turned on the responding officer and attacked him, according to the account. The officer then drew his service firearm and fired, striking the assailant. The man died from the resulting wound at the scene.
The report did not identify the deceased man, the officer involved, or the mother by name. It also did not describe the woman’s medical condition after the assault, and additional details about the shooting were not immediately available.
