Russian Oligarch Umar Kremlev Partially Funds Donald Trump Jr.'s Bahamas Wedding

Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev financed a large share of Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson's three‑day wedding on private Bahamian islands in May, covering island rental, fireworks and other costs through a Dubai‑linked International Boxing Association entity.

Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev financed a substantial portion of the May wedding of Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson, held over three days on two private islands in the Bahamas.

Kremlev covered the rental of one island for the reception and guest accommodations, a fireworks display estimated at $70,000, and other major expenses; the island rental alone can cost roughly $100,000 per night. The funds came from a Dubai‑registered entity linked to the International Boxing Association (IBA), which Kremlev heads.

About 50 guests attended, including Jared Kushner, Eric Trump, Kremlev and a large Russian delegation; President Trump was absent. A month earlier, Putin awarded Kremlev the Order of Friendship, and Kremlev was in China with the Russian leader days before the wedding. Ukraine has sanctioned Kremlev, citing ties to the Kremlin and Russian intelligence.

A Trump Jr. spokesperson did not deny the funding, calling Kremlev a personal friend with no business ties; the couple later said he “generously organized” two evenings as a wedding gift without political intent. Kremlev said he never discussed politics with his American contacts. Former U.S. counterintelligence officials warn such gifts can be used to gain access to influential political families, though Kremlev’s motives remain unclear.
