Ukraine’s Military Intelligence Accuses Security Service of Abducting Soldier and Opening Fire

The commander of the GUR special unit "Tymur" — which includes the Russian Volunteer Corps — told Radio Svoboda that SBU officers abducted a GUR combat commander in broad daylight and held him without bringing official charges. According to the commander, after the sides reached an agreement to carry out procedural actions in accordance with the law, other SBU officers began detaining GUR representatives and opened fire. He claimed the GUR soldiers were unarmed. The unit provided video to Radio Svoboda at the outlet's request.

The SBU offered a different account. It said it was conducting urgent investigative actions in a case concerning a terrorist attack organized by Russian special services. The SBU alleged that a group of individuals launched an armed attack on the investigative team, tried to obstruct the operation, and used vehicles to block the road. The SBU's Alpha special forces unit intervened, and law enforcement used weapons while suppressing armed resistance. The SBU reported that several people who resisted were wounded.

Earlier, the SBU announced that it had worked with GUR to thwart a terrorist attack prepared by Russia's Federal Security Service against a leading Russian opposition figure who had arrived in Ukraine for Independence Day.
