Judges at Ukraine’s High Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) are continuing to select a preventive measure for Yelyzaveta Ivakhnenko, a suspect in the “Carthage” corruption case who appears in National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) recordings under the alias “Muse.” During the hearing, the court allowed Ivakhnenko to remain beside her defense lawyers.
Investigators identify Ivakhnenko as the woman behind the “Muse” pseudonym in materials tied to the Carthage special operation. A 24-year-old Odesa Law Academy graduate, she was appointed deputy dean at the academy by the age of 22, a rapid rise that has drawn scrutiny amid the scandal.
She is accused of involvement in an alleged scheme to protect a network of fraudulent call centers from law enforcement. According to investigators, members of the criminal organization repeatedly received bribes and laundered more than 42 million hryvnias. The court has not yet announced a decision on whether she will be held in custody, released on bail, or placed under another restriction while the investigation proceeds.
