Russian Forces Intensify KAB and Drone Strikes on Dobropillia Sector in Push for Donbas Breakthrough

Russian forces have intensified aerial bombardment and drone strikes on the Dobropillia sector in Donetsk Oblast, marking it as the primary axis for a planned breakthrough into Ukrainian-held Donbas, according to frontline reports.

The sector has received limited media attention despite its strategic role as a flanking fist for Russian offensive operations. Ukrainian defenders describe conditions as fragile, with positions saturated by KAB guided bombs and continuous FPV drone swarms — some equipped with optical sensors — targeting both confirmed and suspected locations, including landing zones.

This pattern mirrors recent Russian tactics elsewhere in Donbas, where FPV drones and guided bombs have been used to establish fire control over urban fringes and support small-unit infiltration attempts, though Ukrainian forces have largely contained those incursions.

Despite catastrophic casualties in earlier assaults, Russian command continues to commit fresh infantry, achieving only marginal gains that cannot be consolidated. The sheer volume of attacks, however, creates persistent tactical problems. Analysts warn that without additional air-defence and counter-drone assets, the sustained combination of heavy air strikes and drone swarms could erode Ukrainian defenses in the sector.
