Interpol-Wanted Ukrainian Detained at Poland-Germany Border

Published Updated

Polish border guards arrested a 57-year-old Ukrainian citizen at the Słubice border crossing after discovering he was wanted by Interpol at Uzbekistan's request for theft.

Polish border guards detained a Ukrainian citizen wanted by Interpol on Thursday, October 1, during a routine check at the border bridge in Słubice, which spans the frontier between Poland and Germany.

The 57-year-old man was entering Poland when officers verified his data against international databases and found an active Interpol notice. The alert had been issued at the request of Uzbekistan in connection with a theft investigation.

Local law enforcement authorities subsequently issued an arrest warrant for the individual. The detention highlights ongoing cross-border police cooperation through Interpol channels between European and Central Asian states.

The Słubice crossing, one of the busiest points on the Oder River border, processes thousands of travelers daily between the Schengen area members. Polish Border Guard spokespersons confirmed the arrest but declined to provide further details on the underlying Uzbek case, citing procedural confidentiality.
