Two 21-Year-Olds Killed in Enemy Strike on Sumy Shopping Center

An enemy strike on a shopping center in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy killed a 21-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman on Thursday, regional governor Oleh Hryhorov confirmed. The head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration extended condolences to their families and said earlier reports of a third death had not been verified.

According to Hryhorov, 20 people were injured in the attack. Two men and one woman are in serious condition, while another woman remains in critical condition. Among the wounded are three girls aged 15 to 16 who sustained light to moderate injuries.

The strike on the commercial facility follows a massed aerial assault on Sumy earlier in the day, when Russian forces launched eight KAB guided bombs hitting residential areas, an industrial zone and infrastructure, wounding three people. That bombardment, reported by the Interior Ministry, set buildings and vehicles ablaze and required extensive rescue operations.

Hryhorov emphasized that information regarding a third fatality from the shopping center strike had not been confirmed, and offered sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased.
