Prices will rise and some products will vanish from store shelves if Russian strikes on Ukrainian business and logistics continue, according to an August 31 update from Anatoliy Amelin. Between August 27 and August 31, Russian attacks damaged dozens of companies and facilities for five consecutive days, stretching across retail, logistics, publishing, pharmaceuticals and consumer goods.
The affected list includes confectioner Roshen; electronics and home-goods retailer Comfy; retail chains Fora, Avrora, Varus and Agromat; children’s retailer Budynok Igrashok; discounter ATB; Auchan; delivery service Nova Poshta; bottled-water supplier Chysta Voda; logistics operator East Gate Logistic; publishers A-BA-BA-GA-LA-MA-GA, Vivat, Readeat, Book.ua and Osnovy; event venue SP Hall; humanitarian agency UNICEF; drugmaker Novartis; and cosmetics firms Beiersdorf, Nivea and Watsons. PepsiCo also reported damage affecting its Pepsi, Lipton Ice Tea, Sandora and Sadochok brands.
If attacks persist, businesses will be forced to spend more to reroute supply chains. Those added costs are expected to push consumer prices higher, narrow product assortment and reduce availability across Ukraine.
