Six More Ukrainian Publishers Report Book Losses After Russian Strike

Six more Ukrainian publishing houses have reported losing books after a Russian strike hit a warehouse, according to Suspilne. The attack burned through stock held by several publishers, compounding earlier reports of losses in the sector. The affected publishers are A-BA-BA-GA-LA-MA-GA, Khto tse?, Krapky, Creative Women Publishing, Stilet i stilos, and Zhorzh. The Arfa online bookstore, which also kept stock at the site, reported losses as well.

Ivan Malkovych, director of A-BA-BA-GA-LA-MA-GA, said the publisher lost “many editions worth a large sum” in the fire. Khto tse? and Krapky said they had stored most of their books at the burned warehouse. Creative Women Publishing and Stilet i stilos lost print runs, while damages are still being calculated. Zhorzh publishing house was reportedly hit again, suggesting it had sustained damage in an earlier strike.

The reports highlight the growing toll on Ukraine’s publishing sector from Russian attacks on storage and distribution infrastructure. Destroyed stock represents both immediate financial losses and a direct threat to the availability of titles that were held at the warehouse.
