NVIDIA Agrees to Acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 Billion

NVIDIA has agreed to acquire Hugging Face, the collaborative platform often called the “GitHub for AI,” in a deal worth $12.93 billion. Hugging Face allows developers to share neural-network models, datasets, and tools for creating AI applications. Those resources are used across research and industry to train, test, and deploy machine-learning projects, and the platform reports more than 18 million users.

The acquisition would give NVIDIA control of a widely used hub for AI development and would rank among the largest recent transactions in the artificial-intelligence sector. It is likely to draw regulatory scrutiny given NVIDIA’s dominance in graphics processors and AI accelerators.

NVIDIA has promised to keep the platform open. The company said developers will remain free to choose their own models, cloud services, and hardware, and will not be forced to adopt NVIDIA chips. The companies did not announce a closing date or the regulatory approvals the deal will require.
