Ukrainian forces have lost full control of Chasiv Yar following the capture of the city's southern section, though isolated positions may remain on the outskirts, according to a battlefield update.
Chasiv Yar has fallen under Russian control after occupying forces captured the southern section of the city, according to a battlefield update from a Donbas-based source. While isolated Ukrainian positions or small groups of troops may still remain on certain outskirts, the overall situation in the city is described as extremely difficult, with Russian forces now in command of the settlement.
The report noted that the heroic defense of the strategic stronghold and fierce combat over the position have stretched back to April 2024. Ukrainian forces have fought a prolonged battle to hold the city, enduring months of heavy clashes and difficult conditions in an effort to maintain their lines.
The update paid tribute to Ukrainian soldiers who fought for every meter of ground, honoring those who took part in the lengthy and costly defense of the city.
Chasiv Yar, located in Donetsk Oblast, has served as a key defensive position on the eastern front near Bakhmut. Its capture marks another shift in territorial control in the region and follows months of grinding combat along the front line.
