Audi unveils most affordable electric car: new A2 returns after 21-year hiatus

German automaker Audi has unveiled its most affordable electric vehicle, a new version of the A2 compact hatchback whose production ended 21 years ago. The revived model marks the brand's entry into the lower-priced battery-electric segment and signals a push to make electric mobility more accessible under the four-ring badge.

In its flagship configuration, the new A2 is powered by an electric motor rated at 326 horsepower. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and offers a claimed maximum range of 646 km on a single charge, with the performance figures applying to the top trim level.

Audi says the model consumes just 12.8 kWh of energy per 100 km, a figure that makes the new A2 the most efficient vehicle the company has ever produced. That efficiency underpins both the extended range and the promise of lower running costs for owners.

In Germany, pricing for the new electric A2 starts at €32,200. The revived nameplate is positioned as Audi's most affordable battery-electric offering to date, carrying one of the brand's older model names back into production.
