Ukrainian defense company Vyriy Industries has presented the Slavic tactical helicopter drone, designed to replace commercial UAVs in frontline reconnaissance with extended range and GPS-independent navigation.
Ukrainian defense manufacturer Vyriy Industries has unveiled the Slavic, a new tactical reconnaissance helicopter drone capable of flying up to 30 kilometers and remaining airborne for 90 minutes. The system is intended to perform missions currently carried out by commercial drone crews, who face increasing risk as the front line expands.
The Slavic features optical positioning that allows operation without GPS, a 2K camera with 10x optical zoom and 30x hybrid zoom, and a control logic familiar to operators of DJI Mavic drones, minimizing retraining. The company says the extended range lets crews operate farther from the line of contact, reducing exposure to enemy fire.
The drone has already undergone initial combat trials with seven units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Vyriy Industries is now preparing the platform for mass production and broader deployment.
The development reflects a wider push in Ukraine to replace vulnerable commercial quadcopters with domestically produced, combat-resilient systems. The Slavic's GPS-denied capability addresses a critical vulnerability exploited by Russian electronic warfare.
