US Imposes Sweeping New Sanctions on Iran

The United States has unveiled a broad sanctions package targeting nearly 60 entities and vessels tied to Iran's nuclear, missile, cyber, and oil infrastructure, while threatening secondary sanctions across five key sectors.

The United States has announced a sweeping new sanctions package against Iran, targeting nearly 60 companies, individuals, and vessels tied to Tehran's nuclear, missile, cyber, and oil infrastructure. The designations cover a wide range of entities connected to strategic sectors of the Iranian economy.

The measures also expose five Iranian economic sectors to the threat of secondary sanctions: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. In addition, Washington suspended specific licenses that had previously allowed certain money transfers to Iran, further constricting the regime's access to international financial channels.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Tehran's partners must halt cooperation within set deadlines or risk being blocked from the dollar-based financial system. "Iran has two paths: normalization of relations or complete isolation," Bessent said.

The package significantly expands Washington's economic leverage over Iran and signals renewed pressure on international companies and governments to wind down business linked to sanctioned Iranian sectors and avoid exposure to U.S. enforcement action.
