Ukrainians in Poland will lose benefits within a week unless they confirm identity, ZUS warns

Ukrainian citizens in Poland risk losing social benefits within days unless they complete an identity verification procedure, Poland's Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has warned. Nationals with children must confirm their identity at the office of their local gmina by 31 August.

If they fail to meet the deadline, their UKR status will be automatically changed to NUE, a designation that signifies the complete termination of temporary protection in Poland. Once that status changes, monthly payments under the country's 800+ child benefit program will stop.

The consequences extend beyond the loss of financial support. The status change could also create legal complications affecting a recipient's right to remain in Poland and their ability to continue lawful employment.

With the deadline less than a week away, Ukrainian families in Poland face a narrow window to complete the required administrative step and avoid disruption to their benefits, residency standing, and work authorization.
