The Ukrainian Navy used a maritime drone to attack the Russian support vessel NEFRIT in Sochi port, targeting a ship used for oil-and-gas operations, offshore servicing, and underwater technical work.
Ukrainian naval forces attacked the Russian offshore support vessel NEFRIT inside Sochi port using a maritime drone, according to a Ukrainian military statement. The vessel supported oil and gas operations, serviced offshore platforms and installations, transported cargo and personnel, and carried out underwater technical and diving work across offshore sites.
The Ukrainian Navy said the strike was intended to degrade Russia’s maritime logistics, specialized support capabilities, and broader military-economic infrastructure. Because the ship combined maintenance, cargo transport, and subsea technical tasks for offshore energy assets, its loss could constrain Russian offshore logistics, personnel rotations, and related support work. Those combined roles made it a multi-purpose support asset for Russian offshore energy and naval logistics.
Sochi, a Black Sea resort city and port on Russia’s southern coast, has served as a logistical hub for Russian maritime activity in the region. The attack on the NEFRIT underscores the vulnerability of Russian offshore support vessels and port facilities far from the immediate front lines.
