The missile, if confirmed, could be launched from several fighter types in Ukraine’s inventory, including Western-supplied F-16s as well as Soviet-era Su-27 and MiG-29 aircraft. That compatibility would allow Ukrainian tactical aviation to hit targets far behind Russian lines without relying on a single airframe.
If the claim is verified, the Donetsk strike would be the first known combat use of such a weapon by Ukrainian forces. It would also underscore continuing efforts to expand Ukraine’s long-range strike capabilities against Russian-held territory.
