U.S. Embassy in Ukraine Urges Americans Not to Travel Amid War, Tightens Diplomatic Rules

The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine has again advised American citizens not to travel to Ukraine, citing the ongoing war. The U.S. State Department warned that Russian missile and drone strikes can occur in regions far from the active combat zone. It also reminded travelers that Ukraine remains under the highest Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory because of the armed conflict.

The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv remains open, but its staff operate under movement limits, activity restrictions, and a nightly curfew. U.S. government employees must obtain special permission to travel outside the capital because of security risks. Family members of American officials are barred from accompanying them to Ukraine because of safety concerns.

The State Department also told Americans in Ukraine to prepare their own evacuation plans and not to rely on U.S. government assistance to leave. The guidance reflects the persistent danger of Russian long-range strikes, which can hit areas well away from the front lines.
