Russian military activity around the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostiantynivka has dropped markedly over the last three days, with a sharp reduction in attack sorties and an almost complete halt to infiltration attempts, frontline sources reported. The lull left some Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles temporarily without engagement targets in the sector.
The slowdown coincides with a broader trend of declining Russian offensive momentum in Donetsk Oblast. Independent analysis earlier this year showed Russian forces seized only about 130 square kilometers in the region during summer 2026, compared with nearly 1,200 square kilometers a year earlier.
Analysts suggest the Russian command may have redirected its main offensive effort to the flanks, where combat has intensified in recent weeks. Another assessment holds that Russian units recognized their position inside the city had become a tactical dead end, prompting an urgent effort to secure exposed flanks. A third possibility is a routine tactical pause for regrouping and reconstitution after months of heavy personnel losses during repeated attempts to accumulate combat power in and around Kostiantynivka, a key transportation hub.
