A monitoring group's early warning prevented casualties when Russian forces hit a passenger train locomotive near the Polish border in Volyn region, the second consecutive daily railway attack.
For the second consecutive day, Russian forces attacked Ukraine’s railway infrastructure, striking the locomotive of a passenger train in the Volyn region just two kilometers from the Polish border. The strike followed a similar attack the previous day on railway assets in the same area, according to Ukrainian Railways.
According to the state railway operator, a specialized air-threat monitoring group identified the incoming danger early enough to alert the train crew, allowing them to take protective action; no passengers or railway personnel were injured. The locomotive sustained damage, but after safety inspections the train was able to continue its journey.
Ukrainian Railways stated it continues to monitor air threats around the clock, enforce movement restrictions where necessary, and deploy all available measures to safeguard passengers and staff. Railway chief Anatoliy Amelin confirmed that early-warning systems and rapid-response protocols remain fully active across the network to mitigate future attacks.
