Russian Forces Roll Back Ukrainian Counterattacks, Advance Within 8 Km of Sloviansk

Aug 28, 2026 13:25

Russian forces have reversed recent Ukrainian counterattacks around Nykiforivka and Lypivka and are pressing toward Sloviansk along the E-40 highway, reaching positions less than 8 kilometers from the city, according to the front-line source Pacany z Donbasu.

On the Kramatorsk-Sloviansk axis, Russian forces have rolled back recent Ukrainian counterattacks in the villages of Nykiforivka and Lypivka, reoccupying most of those settlements and their outskirts, the front-line source Pacany z Donbasu reported. The reversal erases territorial gains Ukrainian units had recently secured in the area.

At the same time, Moscow's troops are advancing directly toward Sloviansk along the E-40 highway that links the city with Bakhmut. Russian units have approached Zapovidne and are trying to push further toward Orikhuvatka, leaving less than 8 kilometers between those forward positions and the outskirts of Sloviansk, the source said.

The latest account follows earlier reporting on 26 August that described Russian attempts to test Ukrainian defenses around Sloviansk and press the Kramatorsk sector, including reported efforts to infiltrate Mykolaivka, Kryva Luka and Rai-Oleksandrivka and pressure the Malynivka–Mayske area. Ukrainian defenders have warned that shortages of personnel make holding the outer defensive belt difficult, yet the belt remains critical for shielding the urban agglomeration in Donetsk Oblast.

The report ended with the message: "We're holding on."
