Record 25 Million UAH Tourist Tax Collected from Hasidic Pilgrims During Rosh Hashanah in Uman

Hasidic pilgrims visiting Uman for Rosh Hashanah contributed a record 25 million hryvnias (approximately $610,000) in tourist tax to Ukraine's state budget this year, according to the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine.

An estimated 50,000 pilgrims arrived in the central Ukrainian city for the Jewish New Year celebrations, generating significant revenue for local businesses through spending on accommodation, transportation, food, and other services.

The pilgrimage represents a major economic event for Uman, with individual trip costs ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of dollars per visitor. The influx provides a substantial seasonal boost to the regional economy.

The Chief Rabbi's announcement highlights the growing scale of the annual gathering, which has become one of the largest Jewish pilgrimages outside Israel. The tax revenue figure marks a notable increase over previous years.

Local authorities and businesses prepare months in advance for the event, which transforms the city's infrastructure and services to accommodate the temporary population surge each autumn.
