Ukrainian police have exposed three servicemen from a separate assault regiment who allegedly planted narcotics in the car of a former Ukrainian Armed Forces battalion commander and orchestrated a provocation involving law enforcement agencies. The suspects, all former police officers, are accused of illegally surveilling the victim and collecting confidential information prior to the incident.
On the night of August 27–28, 2026, the trio entered the victim’s vehicle near his home and hid pre-packaged narcotic and psychotropic substances in zip-lock bags inside the cabin. They then contacted the National Police and the Military Law Enforcement Service (VSP), reporting the supposed discovery, and accompanied the victim along the route to a traffic stop in Kharkiv.
Investigators are now preparing a petition to remand the three servicemen in pre-trial detention. The case underscores concerns about the misuse of law enforcement credentials and military positions for targeted harassment, with authorities treating the drug planting as a deliberate frame-up.
