Poland Could Miss Olympics Due to Arrest of NOC President in Corruption Case

Polish athletes face the possibility of being barred from the Olympic Games, including the Youth Olympics, as the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl) is consumed by a leadership crisis. The disruption began after the committee’s president, Radosław Piesiewicz, was arrested and placed in custody.

Prosecutors suspect Piesiewicz of involvement in a corruption scheme linked to the cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto. If found guilty, he could be sentenced to between six months and eight years in prison.

The arrest has thrown the PKOl into internal disarray, prompting concerns that the International Olympic Committee or other sports authorities may suspend or fail to recognize a committee lacking legitimate leadership. Such a step could prevent Polish athletes from competing under the national flag at upcoming Olympic events.

No final ruling on Poland’s participation has been made, and the case remains in the judicial process. Nevertheless, the collapse of the PKOl’s leadership presents one of the gravest challenges in years to Poland’s representation at the Olympic Games.
