Chinese State Firm Secretly Shipped Drone Chemicals to Russia, Politico Reports

A Chinese state-owned company secretly supplied chemicals used in drone production to Russia, Politico reports. The company is identified as Jilin Chemical Fiber Group, a state-run chemical and materials manufacturer.

Citing transport and customs documents, Politico reports that the Chinese firm disguised a shipment of 46 tons of carbon-fiber chemicals bound for Russia at the start of this year. The consignment was reportedly masked as routine chemical exports.

These documents are the first to describe in detail how a Chinese state enterprise exported components that are most important for drone manufacturing directly to the Russian Federation.

Carbon fiber is a key input for lightweight drone airframes and other aerospace components, and the 46-ton shipment represents a sizable transfer of militarily relevant material.

The report adds to scrutiny of Beijing's trade ties with Moscow and raises questions about whether Chinese state-linked firms are helping Russia sustain weapons production despite international sanctions.
