A 32-year-old Bank of America vice president, Erin Piacente, died after being stabbed in an unprovoked knife attack near Times Square in New York City. Piacente handled business-operations selection and conflicts of interest at a Bank of America office located just a block from where the assault occurred.
According to police, a woman carrying two knives attacked Piacente and a 68-year-old man without provocation. Emergency responders rushed Piacente to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The older man survived and is listed in stable condition, authorities said.
When officers confronted the suspect, she refused to drop the knives and threatened them, prompting police to open fire and kill her. The woman was pronounced dead after the shooting, local authorities said.
The unprovoked daytime assault occurred in one of midtown Manhattan’s busiest pedestrian zones. Footage of the confrontation circulating online carries a viewer-discretion warning for scenes of violence.
