Russian media report that a 70-year-old Ukrainian woman has been sentenced in Russia to 15 years in a penal colony on accusations of financially supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A 70-year-old Ukrainian woman has been sentenced in Russia to 15 years in a penal colony after being accused of providing financial support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian media reported.
According to the Russian account, the woman lived in the temporarily occupied part of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Oblast and, between January and November 2024, used the mobile application of a Ukrainian bank to carry out 24 money transfers. The total value of the transfers was approximately 33,000 hryvnia.
Russian outlets did not identify the woman by name and did not specify the exact legal article under which she was convicted. Prosecutors reportedly portrayed the money as aid intended for Ukrainian troops.
Before the court announced the verdict, the woman began singing “Pisnya pro rushnyk” (“Song about the Rushnyk”), the report said.
The case adds to reports of prosecutions in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories against residents accused of assisting the Ukrainian military.
