Israeli police spokesman Michael Zingerman says 17,000 Hasidic pilgrims have already entered Ukraine, with numbers expected to surpass 20,000 by day's end and total arrivals for the year projected at 40,000–42,000.
Israeli police spokesman Michael Zingerman announced that 17,000 Hasidic pilgrims have already arrived in Ukraine. By the close of today the figure may exceed 20,000, and officials anticipate a total of 40,000 to 42,000 worshippers for the year, roughly the same as in 2023.
Seventeen Israeli police officers have been deployed in advance to work alongside Ukrainian law‑enforcement personnel in the pilgrimage quarter. They conduct joint street patrols, man checkpoints equipped with metal detectors, and verify the documents of foreign visitors.
Police report that the situation remains stable and that the pilgrims are behaving calmly. Authorities say they are taking all possible measures to ensure the holiday proceeds without incident.
